been on the internet for a long time doing things like
creating my own internet city, website promotion, making
money on the internet, I have seen the internet change by
leaps and bounds.

Today, in order to be relevant in internet marketing your
website or blog has to do more than just be a static webpage,
now you have to have content and different methods to share
that content such as having your own blog, perhaps forums,
and now the biggie, video. With increasing access to broadband,
video is now possible for virtually everyone to use. Video has

become the new must have have, not only for internet marketers
but for everyone who has a website.

Local Biz Owners who have a website can especially benefit from

video. With video, there are new opportunities to get out your

message, advertise your business, make video postcards, send

How do you get started?

1. Ask yourself “Do I have the time?” If you can manage your time properly then you shouldn’t have a problem managing your budget.

Time management is an essential component of any business whether you work from home or actually punch a time clock.

The goal of budgeting time should be your number one priority if you are going to succeed in your home based business.

Your commitment should be at least 20-25 hrs per week.

2. Make sure you have the financial means to invest money into your home based business.

You must be willing to set aside a certain amount of money to build your business. It’s not the same for everyone. But realize that you have to spend money, invest in your business first, before you start to see the returns. No business was ever started without first spending money to set up the business in the first place.

3. The fastest way to let people know that you are in business is to “tell them”! I’m sure they know 10 people, and those 10 people know 10 people etc. The referrals will be endless.

4. Hand out business cards. Carry them everywhere and post them on message boards, hand them out to delivery carriers, leave them at your doctors’ offices, put them in your outgoing mail, and hand them to cashiers as they hand you your change.

From there, start posting relevant comments on forums; it is way to advertise yourself and become known as an expert in your field. Most forums allow you to set up a signature with your link in it.

6. Start writing and submitting articles about you and your business it costs nothing and it’s a great way to gain exposure. Add a link in your resource box to your blog or website.

7. Build a blog this can also be free or cost a few dollars a month. This builds credibility, trust and also brands you. Be sure to add a comment area for people that are reading your blog. Provide a subscribe to my blog area also. Comment on other peoples blogs as well.

8. Social Networking. This is also free and it is a great way to drive traffic to your websites.

9. Email signature should include all of your links that people can follow and learn more about you and your business.

10. Meet and greet people by joining local business organization, chamber of commerce’s and begin networking with like minded business people.

Finally, Twitter! You will meet tons of people in real time and forge relationships through conversations and sharing ideas whether it’s tips on blogging or sharing recipes. Twitter is all about building relationships which expands your networking circle.

So Where Do You Start?

That is certainly a good question. I started listening to everyone on the yahoo group emails and did acquire a lot of great information to begin with.

I started with advertising in my small town newspaper because it was close to the holidays. I really thought everyone would jump on the band wagon and buy, buy, buy simply because it was nearing Christmas and candles make great gifts. Oh well, no such luck.

Then it was on to doing an event! Yes, I thought this would really take my business to the top. So I hunkered down and listened to all the pre-recorded telephone conferences about setting up a booth etc.

I bought enough candles, tables, table cloths, shelf unit to display several of the top sellers. I had the opt-in box displayed. I even made up a basket worth $85.00 for someone to win.

I employed my husband and daughter to help with step up and everything else.

It was overcast that day. Ominuous clouds, dark rain clouds, then the wind whipped up. The next thing I heard was a big clap of thunder. Then lightening. Ooh! Then it began to rain. It's a good thing I had prepared and brought a 9x12 plastic sheet to cover my tables with. However, the weather got worse.

In between the rain and thunder and lightening I did manage 2 sales of the 16 oz jars. Was it worth it? Well it was a learning experience for me; I learned I had brought too much product. Because trying to gather everything up in the rain, put it back in the truck was a bit much.

Would I do it again? Yes. So I did sign up for another event that was outdoors and was looking forward to it. When the day came, my husband was not feeling well and so I could not go. It was disappointing.

So I gather my thoughts and decided to turn to the internet and prospect and advertise there.

Nothing to carry and I knew I would not get wet.

And so started my journey to the internet. I just love it. I have several Squidoo lenses and two blogs and I set up a myspace page. I also started Twitter.com. I totally love connecting with people through these social network avenues.

Networking is so much fun it doesn't seem like work at all.

So you must find out what will work for you.
